On-site MFP Installation and Support

Updated: Feb 18, 2023

I am starting my 88 mile trek west to visit and change out an older printer for a current make and model. Some of the features I presume will be the usual print, copy, scan and fax. I will examine the current network settings and other features like address books and original settings.

Upon arrival, I thought this was a Kyocera Model... Yikes, scratch that thought! This story has updated.

It is a different product as I arrived onsite. The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw. When it is a LaserJet, this means a I will likely see faster print performance. From time to time, I find myself in front of OfficeJet products and spend more time waiting around for printing a job to shoot out. Lucky me.

That hard work of removing an old brother MFP and installing a new HP in its place ISN'T SO BAD. Unboxing the little HP printer is easier than other bigger models.

First impressions are, the 4 toner cartridges are super easy to change out. The lift straight up with nothing locking them down.

It has the envelope and special feeder as Tray 1. A good general paper tray as Tray 2. Fax line is connected to a Cisco ATA VoIP adapter. Fax send and receive with a passing grade. Getting into the address book allow many destinations. In our case, it was programmed with 8 different folders using network SMB to a NAS. Dropping in scans formatted as PDFs at 300 DPI in Color.

The print driver comes in PCL, PostScript and a Fax feature. HP is known to have the full software package that covers all scan and print functions. If you got the time, go for it. Be sure to change the default to simplex printing if the duplex printing isn't going to cut it for openers.

This device covers many things as a Multi Function Printer can and a bit more.

There is a smart mobile app that handles controls to print, scan, copy & status. I admit, very remarkable stuff for desktop and mobile access.

Overall, I look forward to running a few connectivity features from iPhone to device and back.

So far so good. I'm impressed.

Cheers!
